Our country is facing momentous challenges. After years of neglect and avoiding the tough issues during the Bush Administration, we need action to reform our financial system, get good jobs, and build the clean energy economy of the 21st century. Congress passed - and the President signed - historic reform of our health care system last year, and we continue working on some of the toughest issues of our time. Keeping Massachusetts' Fishing Industry Strong

On Monday, October 3, Senator Kerry held a Commerce Committee field hearing in Boston on the state of the Massachusetts fishing industry. The hearing examined the first year of the catch share fisheries management plan, including its social and economic impacts, and discussed constructive steps forward to improve its outcomes for our state's fishermen.

Jobs And A Stronger Economy

We've seen some encouraging economic signs the last months, but that's little consolation for every American who has lost their job and is still searching for a new one. The road from recession to recovery still runs straight through policies that create jobs and strengthen the middle class. We need more action now to put Americans back to work, starting with real help for the states, extending vital unemployment insurance for those hit hardest by the recession, and doing more to rebuild our nation's infrastructure. People expect Washington to do something for working people in extreme economic danger, and I'll be at work in the weeks ahead to make sure the Senate stands with working Americans this year.

Rebuilding National Infrastructure with the BUILD Act

Our national infrastructure desperately needs upgrading to build prosperity for our national future. John Kerry, along with Kay Bailey Hutchison and Mark Warner, has introduced legislation creating an American Infrastructure Bank to give us the resources we need to build America's future.
