About this
service
My office can arrange for Massachusetts residents to purchase an American
flag that has flown over the Capitol. This service is not provided
at taxpayer expense. Rather, the person making the request is asked
to pay a small fee to cover the cost of the flag and processing expenses.
It is a great honor to fly a flag that has flown over the Capitol.
Organizations and individuals request such a flag for many purposes,
such as presiding over a ceremony, flying over a building (such as
a school), or giving as a present to a loved one, often a veteran.
All flags are made in the United States. |
|
When requesting a flag, you may specify the date on which it should
be flown, and whether it is to honor a person or group or to commemorate
an event. You may also specify that the flag you receive be flown
during specific functions, such as those involving military ceremonies,
visits from heads of state, presidential addresses, or joint sessions
of Congress. All these details will be documented by the Capitol Flag
Office in the official certificate of authenticity that comes with
every flag.
Flag prices
Flags come in two materials (nylon and cotton) and three sizes (3'
x 5', 4' x 6', and 5' x 8'). The 4' x 6' flag is only available in
nylon. The prices below are current as of February 2002.

In addition, there is a $4.05 flying and certification cost for
each flag ordered. (Without it, you can still buy a flag, but it
won't be flown over the U.S. Capitol building.) Please also include
$4.00 for shipping and postage. Please do not
forget to include $4.00 for each flag, as this will result in unnecessary
delays in processing your order.
How to request a flag
To request a flag, write to Erica Giers
in the Washington,
D.C. office, or use the Flag
Order Form provided. Please include your name and mailing
address along with any other pertinent information (see above).
All checks or money orders should be made out to The
Keeper of the Stationery.
(Sorry, since we need payment before we can forward your request,
we can not take your request over the Internet.)
