John Kerry Introduces Elena Kagan

The tragedy in the Gulf underscores why we need to change America’s energy future - today. We can’t afford to wait. Transitioning to new energy sources will jumpstart our economy, safeguard our national security, and protect our environment. We can reclaim our leadership of the global clean energy economy, and stop sending a billion dollars a day overseas for our oil while we’re at it.

Joe Lieberman and I are working closely with the Senate leadership to bring a bill to the floor that’s an enormous step forward for our energy policy that will work to reach those goals, limit carbon pollution and stabilize our climate. We need to put a price signal on carbon to limit that pollution, and we’re working to find the formula that works best to achieve that. The leadership is committed to bringing a bill to the floor in the next few weeks, and we’ll be working with the President to make sure we pass that bill.
